The BioValue and SELINA (Science for Evidence-based and Sustainable Decisions about Nature Capital) projects are at the forefront of European research calling for a transformative change to value biodiversity. The two projects are part of the Biodiversity Transformation Cluster and aim to identify change pathways in how institutions, policymakers, and professionals perceive and manage nature and its resources.
The Trento Municipality oversees both projects, serving as one of the Arenas for Transformation for BioValue and hosting one of the SELINA demonstration projects. The goal is to draft the city’s Urban Greening Management Plan.
Following up on the joint Seminar held in September 2023, a second dialogue session took place at the beginning of July. On this occasion, Trento Arena, represented by the Urban Regeneration and Innovation office, had the opportunity to share the first version of Manifesto Fersina, the spatial plan for the requalification of the Fersina river, produced under BioValue. The partners from SELINA’s Demonstration Project #03, represented by the Park and Gardens office, also shared the progress on their Urban Greening Plan for the city. Relevant avenues for collaboration emerged from the meeting, such as sharing available datasets, combining sampling and mapping efforts, and synchronizing goals and dissemination events.
These meetings are essential to ensure better cooperation across the different projects and municipal offices working on spatial planning solutions to enhance biodiversity and ecosystem services in the city. By connecting the expertise and resources from public and scientific partners, these initiatives are set to significantly contribute to creating more livable, resilient, and environmentally friendly urban spaces in Trento.
