Dear Reader,
These past months have been intense for BioValue, as we have reached 2/3 mark of our project.
Following a deep analysis of how each of the instruments in BioValue – spatial planning and management instruments, environmental assessment instruments and economic and financial instruments – are currently addressing biodiversity in spatial planning practices, research is now embracing the conceptualization and discussion of how the three instruments are being, or could be, jointly used to better enhance the value of biodiversity in spatial planning. Several activities within BioValue work programme are worth highlighting in this newsletter.
Firstly, BioValue research partners have launched the webinar series titled “Unlocking Biodiversity Value in Spatial Planning – A Webinar Reflection Journey to Enhance Transformation”. These webinars serve as dialogue sessions with stakeholders from across Europe, including spatial planners, experts, and researchers. As of now, two webinars have been held, with a total of 46 participants. In this newsletter, you will find the link to the recording and materials presented in the first webinar organized by Trento University, titled “Towards Biodiversity-Inclusive and Transformative Spatial Plans in Europe: A Comparison of Practices”. During the webinar, insights from the analysis of 28 plans from seven countries (Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Scotland, Denmark, Germany, and Spain) were presented and discussed.
The recording of the second webinar, hosted by Aalborg University and entitled “Benchmarking Biodiversity: How well are we integrating in environmental assessment?” will be soon available online on BioValue website, on YouTube, and in the next newsletter issue. Make sure not to miss it!
The three Arenas for Transformation have continued their work towards defining their pathways for transformative change, during the ongoing series of the Transformation Action Workshops involving local stakeholders. As a preservation of collective efforts towards participation and dialogue, all consortium partners gathered in Neustrelitz in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Federal State Arena. The meeting was an opportunity to engage with local stakeholders and discuss the challenges and needs of implementing transformative change in spatial planning by balancing various requirements and perspectives. You will soon have more insights into these conversations, so stay tuned to our channels.
Additionally, BioValue researchers have participated in several international conferences and events. They have been hosted at the IAIA24 in Dublin, in Ireland, and at the ESP Latin America and Caribbean Conference, sharing the project’s findings with the broader scientific community. With further participations at future events, BioValue agenda is full of new opportunities for connecting and engaging with stakeholders.
As we progress towards the end of our project, collaboration with the Transformative Change for Biodiversity Cluster remains crucial. This newsletter also features relevant updates and news from the cluster projects.
BioValue’s transformative change is unfolding more and more.
